The Best Time to Visit Socotra
When is the best time to Visit Socotra?
Sitting just off the coast of mainland Yemen, between the Arabian Sea and the Guardafui Channel lies the unique island of Socotra. Known as the ‘Jewel of Arabia’, or ‘the Galapagos of the Middle East” its biodiversity makes it a UNESCO world heritage site and it has unrivalled opportunities for swimming, scuba diving, hiking and exploring.
The island has varying weather and there are certain times you won’t want to visit Socotra. January through to May is an excellent time to go, taking advantage of the dry season. From January to March you will still have some rain, making the island of Socotra green and lush. As the weather becomes drier into April and May, the waters are calmer and you can take full advantage of the incredible snorkelling, boat trips and the abundant wildlife like sea turtles and dolphins that swim in the crystal waters.
October and November are also good months to visit, but the rest of the year from May through to September and December are either scorching hot or incredibly wet, so it’s best to avoid these if possible.
