April 6th is UN International Day of Sport for Development and Peace and we are very lucky to work alongside some amazing people and organisations that offer opportunity through sport in the countries we operate in.
Today we wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part in our virtual Marathon of Afghanistan event earlier this year. Untamed Borders have supported the MoA from the very start, and it has a very special place in our hearts as founder James was one of the original founders of the race back in 2015.
This year, we had around 400 people across 35+ countries take part virtually by ski, snowshoe, bike and swim, as well as walking and running, and it was wonderful to see so many Afghans participating. Some are still in their home country, some have reached a safe refuge elsewhere and others are stuck somewhere in-between. Hopefully it brought a smile to everyone’s faces to be part of a global community celebrating sport and trying to do something to help Afghans.
In total we raised £7K, so a huge thank you to all who donated, particularly those who were very generous. The funds have been distributed to charity partners as well as Afghan crew/organisers of the race, 25 of which are still in Afghanistan.
