Riyadh Marathon

Untamed Borders first organised trips to take part in the Riyadh Marathon in 2020. 

 

 

This particular race was put on by the Riyadh Road Runners group and had to be held in a private compound, to ensure both men and women could run together (at that stage the deeply conservative country, would not have allowed women and men to participate in an event like this publicly).

 

However, since then, the Saudi government has relaxed some of these traditional views and laws, in line with looking to vastly boost its tourism sector. Now the government has launched its own marathon, held in the capital.

 

 

We arranged packages for guests to take part in the race in 2022 and 2023. The country has now become much easier to travel to and, as a result, we have stopped running trips to the race.
