  1. Day 1 Arrive - Lahore

Transfer from airport to hotel for briefing.
Once in Lahore there may be a chance to visit shrines where Sufi mystics spin to the beat of the Dohl drum at night.
    Overnight in Lahore

  2. Days 2 & 3 Lahore

You have two full days in and around Lahore. You will be able to spend time in the narrow alleyways of the old city including the largest medieval mosque in the world. The awesome Badshahi mosque. You will also have the option to visit the Lahore museum, Wazir Khan mosque and Lahore Fort.
We will also head out of Lahore in the afternoon to the Indian border at Wagah to witness the daily flag ceremony. Huge crowds gather to watch the Indian and Pakistani border guards lower their flags.
    Overnight in Lahore

  3. Day 4 Lahore - Peshawar

Drive to Peshawar via UNESCO listed Rohtas Fort.
Rohtas Fort, built in the 16th century at a strategic site in the North of Pakistan, is an exceptional example of early Muslim military architecture in central and south Asia. The main fortifications of this 70-hectare garrison consist of massive masonry walls more than four kilometres in circumference, lined with 68 bastions and pierced at strategic points by 12 monumental gateways.
    Overnight in Peshawar

  4. Day 5 Peshawar

A full day Peshawar. The city was the gateway between the subcontinent and Central Asia and when visiting the old city you can see in the faces and the smells that you have reached the edge of India. Pashtuns, Hazara, Tajik, Chitrali and Uzbek faces all mingle and business is conducted over endless cups of Qawa (cardamon flavoured green tea). As well as an extensive tour of the old city you will be able to visit a workshop that makes Pakistan’s famous decorated trucks.
    Overnight in Peshawar.

  5. Day 6 Islamabad – Takht e Bhai – Taxila - Islamabad

A visit to two more of Pakistan’s UNESCO world heritage sites, Takht e Bhai and Taxila. Both sites are from the Ghandaran period when this region was a Greco-Buddhist kingdom ruled from Taxila. In the centuries that followed Alexander the Great’s conquests, the Ghandaran kingdom mixed Stupas and Buddhist imagery with Greek art and geometry creating the original east-west fusion of cultures and art.
    Overnight in Islamabad

  6. Day 7 End

    Transfer to airport.
    End of trip

Accommodation

We do not and cannot offer a uniform accommodation standard on our itineraries. Even if we wanted to, the reality is that standards in Islamabad cannot be compared to a guesthouse in a small town. We consider comfort, location, design, character, historical interest and whether the money we spend will go into the pockets of the local community when we make our choices of where to stay.
The accommodation will be based on guests sharing a twin room.
If you would like a private room, an optional single supplement can be purchased for US$400.

  • Tips

We do not directly arrange international flights to Pakistan. We can suggest routes and operators.

We do not arrange Pakistan visas directly. We will provide visa support in the form of letters of invitation to assist in your Pakistan visa application.

We include breakfast every day. We also include some other meals in remote areas when trekking as stated on the itinerary. In our experience people sometimes want to eat different things in different places at different times and when there is an option we will be happy for you to have your say. We know some great places and will also happily show you some of our favourite restaurants and tea houses. Some are luxurious, some are more earthy but all have character. However, we do not pretend to be the arbiters of good taste and are equally happy for you to go off and find your own favourites. However, when restaurants are unavailable we ensure that food is provided.

When we choose our vehicles and drivers we take into consideration the road conditions, the length of journey and the competence of the man behind the wheel. Most of the roads on this trip are paved although the state of the surface can vary. Your comfort and enjoyment of the journey is the first priority.

On this trip you will be accompanied by an English speaking guide from Untamed Borders for the whole time you are in Pakistan. This allows for greater flexibility and means that there will always be someone on hand to help or assist you.

Peshawar has a bad reputation and can often appear on black lists by the foreign office. However, we know this city well and our guides are used to accompanying small groups to all parts of Pakistan. We monitor the situation closely and we listen very carefully to advice from the foreign office and from our friends in the areas we visit. Our client’s safety is our primary concern. We must state that the tour leader has the final word with regards to changes in the itinerary for safety reasons. Whilst the route we have chosen passes through areas which we consider to be stable things can change and we may have to alter the route or cancel sections of the trip at short notice.
