A 7-day trip to Algeria, to coincide with the solar eclipse on 2nd August 2027, the longest land-based solar eclipse in our life time.
The best places to take in the spectacular natural phenomenon are North of Africa and the Horn of Africa. On this Algerian adventure we’ll explore the country, while also basing ourselves in a perfect spot to take in the eclipse.
The eclipse will be the longest total solar eclipse, easily accessible on land, in the 21st century – expected to last more than 5 minutes in Algeria – the next of this length won’t be until 2114.
We begin in the capital Algiers, before heading east to visit Djemilla, the most famous Roman archaeological site in Algeria. From there we head to Timgad to witness the eclipse before turning north to Constantine, a city defined by bridges and deep ravines.
Finally we return to Algiers for three nights to visit the labyrinthine-like Kasbah and other key sites, before we venture westwards along the Mediterranean coastline for a day trip to the fabulous Roman remains at Tipaza and Cherchell.
